Essential oils are concentrated aromatic plant extracts used in aromatherapy, where aroma interacts with the limbic system — the part of the brain governing mood and emotion. Essential oils are highly concentrated. Diffuse into the air or dilute in a carrier oil for massage — never apply undiluted to skin, and do not take internally unless under qualified guidance. Patch test first, keep away from eyes, and take particular care in pregnancy, with children and around pets, as some oils are not suitable.
