Skin & Body Care.

Natural skin and body care starts with one piece of physiology: the skin barrier. The outermost layer of skin is a wall of cells mortared together with lipids — and when that lipid mortar is stripped by harsh surfactants, weather or over-washing, water escapes (dermatologists call it transepidermal water loss) and dryness, tightness and irritation follow. Most of the products here work by respecting or rebuilding that barrier rather than stripping it. Our skin and body care collection brings together traditional botanical balms, barrier-supporting creams and clean everyday essentials from the brands we stock — Weleda, Sanctum, Handmaid and many more.

How to read a natural skincare label — humectants, emollients and occlusives

Almost every moisturiser combines three jobs, and knowing which your skin needs makes choosing far simpler. Humectants draw water into the skin — hyaluronic acid, the key ingredient in Sanctum's Hy C serum and repair cream, holds many times its own weight in water, and pairs naturally with vitamin C, the cofactor skin needs to build collagen. Emollients — plant oils and butters such as argan, coconut and calendula-infused oils — soften skin by filling the gaps between surface cells. Occlusives — beeswax, lanolin and tallow — sit on top and slow water loss. Whipped tallow balms (Handmaid) are an old idea back in favour for a sound reason: tallow's fatty-acid profile sits close to that of human sebum, which is why it absorbs readily and suits very dry skin. Dehydrated skin wants humectants; dry, flaky skin wants emollients and occlusives; often the answer is layering both.

The traditional botanicals you'll find here

This collection carries the classic topical herbs, each with a long history of use. Calendula — the centrepiece of Weleda's baby range — is traditionally used to soothe delicate, easily irritated skin, which is why it anchors nappy-change creams. Arnica is the traditional choice for massage over bruises and tired muscles. Papaw (Grandpawpaw) and Kunzea, an Australian native (Zea Relief), are traditionally used for everyday skin comfort, alongside wild oregano cream, wheatgrass recovery spray and drawing masks of Australian bentonite clay. You'll also find topical magnesium — lotions and magnesium-based deodorants that deliver the mineral through the skin.

Skin is built from the inside, too

Skin is an organ with a supply chain. Its collagen scaffold, its oil production and even its immune tone are shaped by nutrition and by the gut — the gut–skin axis is one of the better-supported ideas in modern dermatology research, and it's why this collection sits alongside targeted probiotics and postbiotics for skin, our naturopath-written guides to acne and eczema, and the nutritional side of skin care. See Skin Health for inside-out support, Collagen for the structural side, and Digestion & Gut Health for the gut–skin connection.

Who may benefit

Anyone moving their daily body care — moisturisers, deodorants, balms, lip care, sun protection — to cleaner formulations; people with dry, sensitive or easily irritated skin who need barrier-first products; and parents looking for gentle, calendula-based baby care.

Frequently asked questions

Do natural deodorants stop you sweating? No — and that's by design. Aluminium-based antiperspirants block the sweat ducts; natural deodorants let skin sweat normally and instead neutralise the bacteria that cause odour, using bicarb or magnesium. Magnesium-based, bicarb-free formulas are the usual choice for sensitive underarm skin.
What's the difference between dry and dehydrated skin? Dry skin lacks oil and needs emollients and occlusives; dehydrated skin lacks water and needs humectants like hyaluronic acid. Skin can be both at once — oil-rich but water-poor — which is why layering a humectant under a balm often works best.
Is skin health really linked to the gut? Closely — immune tolerance and inflammation, both central to skin conditions, are heavily influenced by the gut microbiome, which is why topical care works best alongside inside-out support.
