Liver Support

The liver is the body's primary detoxification organ — it processes everything from hormones and medications to alcohol, environmental chemicals and the by-products of normal metabolism. Supporting it isn't about a quick "cleanse"; it's about giving the liver's own clearance pathways the nutrients and botanicals they need to work well. Our liver collection brings together the hepatoprotective herbs, antioxidants and nutrients used to support healthy liver function.

How liver support works

The liver clears toxins in two linked stages. Phase I enzymes chemically modify a compound, often creating a reactive intermediate; Phase II then attaches it to a carrier molecule to make it water-soluble and safe to excrete. Both stages are nutrient-dependent, and a well-designed protocol supports them in balance:

  • Milk thistle (silymarin) — the classic hepatoprotective herb, supporting liver-cell antioxidant defence.
  • Sulforaphane (from broccoli seed) and the brassica compounds — induce the body's Phase II detoxification enzymes; relevant to both liver and healthy oestrogen clearance.
  • NAC, glutathione and amino acids (glycine, glutamine, taurine) — substrates for conjugation and for glutathione, the liver's master antioxidant.
  • B vitamins and antioxidants — methylation cofactors and free-radical protection.
  • Bitter and cholagogue herbs — dandelion and globe artichoke to support bile flow.

Who may benefit

People wanting to support healthy liver function and the body's natural detoxification, those undertaking a practitioner-guided detox program, and anyone supporting hormone clearance or antioxidant status.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to "detox"? The body detoxifies continuously on its own; the aim of these formulas is to support those pathways nutritionally, not to replace them.
What's the most studied liver herb? Milk thistle (St Mary's thistle), for its silymarin content.
Liver and antioxidants? Closely linked — see Antioxidants.
