Serrapeptase 100000 Enzyme Science 120 capsules
Serrapeptase Pro — high-potency proteolytic enzyme support, 100,000 SPU per capsule
Serrapeptase Pro is the high-strength serrapeptase formula from Enzyme Science, the practitioner line produced by Enzymedica. Each single vegetarian capsule delivers 100,000 SPU of serrapeptase together with a Protease Thera-Blend (80,000 HUT). Serrapeptase is a proteolytic (protein-digesting) enzyme traditionally used to support the body's normal inflammatory response and healthy fibrin metabolism. Taken away from food so the enzymes pass into circulation rather than digesting your meal, it is one of the most-studied systemic enzymes.
Per capsule: Serrapeptase 100,000 SPU · Protease Thera-Blend™ 80,000 HUT · Calcium (from calcium citrate) 17.5 mg · Magnesium (from magnesium citrate) 0.1 mg. Vegetarian capsule (cellulose, water). Free from gluten, dairy, casein, soy and egg.
What is Serrapeptase Pro?
Serrapeptase (also written serratiopeptidase or serrapeptidase) is an enzyme first identified in Serratia bacteria living in the gut of the silkworm. The silkworm uses it to dissolve its silk cocoon and emerge — and that origin tells you something useful about how the enzyme behaves: it breaks down structural, non-living protein while leaving living tissue intact. Today it is produced by fermentation rather than from silkworms. "Pro" refers to the potency and the practitioner positioning: at 100,000 SPU this is a high-activity dose in a single capsule, paired with a protease blend rather than serrapeptase alone.
How serrapeptase works — selective proteolysis and fibrin metabolism
Serrapeptase is a proteolytic enzyme: it hydrolyses peptide bonds, cutting proteins into smaller fragments. What makes it interesting systemically is its preference for denatured and non-vital protein — damaged tissue, cellular debris, and fibrin — over healthy structural protein. Fibrin is the tough, insoluble, cross-linked protein the body lays down from fibrinogen during clotting and tissue repair. It is essential in the short term, but where it accumulates it can thicken the local protein matrix and raise blood viscosity. Serrapeptase is described as fibrinolytic — it helps break down excess fibrin — which is the mechanism behind its traditional use for healthy circulation and a normal inflammatory response. The same proteolytic action is why it is traditionally taken to help thin and clear excess mucus in the respiratory and sinus passages: it acts on the protein component that makes mucus thick and sticky.
Why units (SPU) matter more than milligrams
Enzyme labels are one of the few places where the weight of an ingredient tells you almost nothing. Serrapeptase is measured in SPU (serrapeptase units), an activity assay — how much substrate the enzyme can actually break down — not in milligrams of powder. Two products listing the same milligram weight can differ enormously in real activity depending on how the enzyme was manufactured and stabilised. When comparing serrapeptase products, compare the activity units (SPU), not the mg. Serrapeptase Pro is standardised to 100,000 SPU per capsule.
Why it's taken on an empty stomach
This is the step most people get wrong, and it changes what the enzyme does. Taken with food, a proteolytic enzyme behaves like a digestive enzyme — it goes to work on the protein in your meal and little reaches the bloodstream. Taken on an empty stomach, away from food, more of the enzyme is absorbed intact and can act systemically, which is the point of taking serrapeptase for fibrin and inflammatory support rather than digestion. Serrapeptase Pro is designed to be taken one hour before or two hours after eating.
The role of the Protease Thera-Blend
Serrapeptase Pro is not serrapeptase in isolation. It includes Enzymedica's Protease Thera-Blend — a combination of proteases selected to stay active across the shifting pH of the digestive tract, from the acidic stomach to the more alkaline small intestine. A single enzyme has one narrow pH window where it works best; a blend keeps proteolytic activity going across the whole transit, which supports delivery of active enzyme. The small amounts of calcium and magnesium citrate complete the formulation.
Who it may suit
People looking for a high-activity systemic enzyme to support a normal inflammatory response, healthy fibrin metabolism and circulation, or clear breathing and sinuses. The vegetarian, allergen-free formulation suits those avoiding gluten, dairy, soy and egg.
How to take it
Take 1 capsule daily on an empty stomach — one hour before, or two hours after, a meal. More may be taken as needed or as directed by your healthcare professional. Swallow whole with water.
May support
- A healthy, balanced inflammatory response
- Normal fibrin metabolism, blood viscosity and circulation
- Clear, comfortable respiratory and sinus passages
- Recovery and tissue health after everyday exertion
Precautions
If you are taking anticoagulant or antiplatelet (blood-thinning) medication, have a bleeding disorder, or are scheduled for surgery, do not use without first consulting your healthcare professional, and discontinue before any planned procedure. Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless advised by your healthcare professional. Always read the label and use only as directed. If symptoms persist, talk to your healthcare professional.
